Keep in mind this is an entry level system you are creating. Any sort of review will no doubt be all over the map and subjective. It's really going to be personal taste more than anything, along with some trial and error/adjustments of both placement/separation/AV receiver settings until you hear something suitable to your liking. Also, the style of music you gravitate toward may play a huge role in whether or not you like a specific speaker, etc.
All that said, I'd spend some time reading, reading, then reading more over @ AVS forum in the various sub-forums. There you can learn more about what you should focus on with audio systems from a very entry level standpoint. Go here: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/index.php

I'm looking at a new set of entry level speakers and was considering the SVS prime towers. My only concern with the review was that they were said to "lack warmth" that other speakers might have. Would pairing these with a subwoofer alleviate that problem (at least somewhat)? I've also considered looking at a pair of stand mounters to go with a subwoofer.
On a side note, I believe my room is big enough to handle tower speakers, as it is about 12 feet from speaker position to couch and at least 14 feet wide (even wider in half the room with an open wall), but advise if they would sound too big in that area and I can just go with stand mounts.
