Question

Entering BIOS is hard...

Nov 18, 2018 6:23PM PST

I've been trying to enter BIOS for a couple of days. I have tried reaching the blue screen then going to BIOS and many function keys (Function 1, 2, 10, Delete). Is there another way to reach BIOS that I am unaware of? Thanks!

On Windows 10

To access your BIOS on a Windows 10 PC, you must follow these steps.
W+I / Update & security / Recovery / Click Restart Now under Advanced startup / Click Troubleshoot / Click Advanced options / Select UEFI Firmware Settings / 'do your thing' / Click Restart –
I believe the correct order might be the following, but you might want to change the order for a different reason = (1) UEFI: Windows Boot - (2) USB – (3) (DVD or Internal Device) – (4) Floppy Device – (5) On Board NIC Device

Good luck

Answer
Access BIOS

You can access UEFI BIOS Setup screen (sometimes called BIOS Setup Utility or Boot Options screen) when computer is accessible or locked.

Method 1: Access UEFI BIOS Setup with Hot Key
Method 2: Access UEFI BIOS by PC Settings
Method 3: Access UEFI BIOS Setup via Command Prompt
Method 4: By Holding down Shift While Choosing Restart Button

I believed that you tried the first method.

For method 2: you can achieve it with the following operations: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Advanced startup > Restart now > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart

For method 3: you need to
1. No matter you are in computer desktop or not, press Win + X to access menu and select Command Prompt (Admin) in menu.
2. While there is a dialog popping up to ask you whether allow Command Prompt to make changes to this computer, type an administrator password and click Yes.
3. Type the following command and press Enter.
shutdown.exe /r /o
4.If all above works normally, you would access Advanced startup options and you are available to choose Troubleshoot. Next steps will be the same to Method 2

As for method 4, I think it is no need to do if you master the first three methods.

Just A Note As To Method 3..CMD Prompt No Longer Accessible.
Dec 14, 2018 4:29PM PST

Pressing the Windows key + X will no longer gain access to a command prompt link in the newer versions of Windows 10. It was removed from the menu. You would have to open the "Run" line option and access cmd.exe from there although it won't be elevated to admin. Of course, if you can boot the computer to normal Windows or Safe Mode, you can easily open an elevated command prompt window by typing it in the search line.

Hope this helps.
