I've tracked that one down in XP many times to a CODEC that was faulty. If you added DivX or any other decoder this is usually the cause. I can't talk about Ableton but you should report it to it's maker.
Another thing could be UAC. The more I use Vista the closer I get to sending it to digital hell.

I am using Windows Vista on an HP AMD 2 gb ram laptop and I am having a problem ending processes.
I only use this laptop for music, and I have had this problem several times with both Ableton Live and Windows Media Player.
When the program hangs up, i hit ctrl alt delete and end the process. The program disappears from the screen, but in the task manager it continues to run indefinitely, no matter how many times i click 'end process' which doesn't allow me to restart the program as an instance of it is still running.
The only thing I can do at this point is restart the system.
Is this a known bug? is there any update or way I can fix this problem?
Thanks a million in advance to anyone that can help.
