Be aware that if PREVIEW was enabled in Outlook, the exploits could have done the damage and not your work.

I hope someone can help me - we are in major panick mode at my house.
Yesterday I installed spybot on my pc. When I ran it it found a few files which I deleted (nothing raised any red flags when I read the file descriptions).
My husband came home last night and worked on Outlook -everything was fine. Let me say he has a TON of appts/tasks/emails related to his job on Outlook.
Well, this morning they were all gone...no appts, no tasks, no email - only his contacts are intact. Needless to say he is freaking out.
Thinking it might have been related to the files I deleted with spybot I restored them - no luck.
Someone mentioned I may have to reconfigure our outlook - does this sound right? How do I do this? Will it restore our emails/appts/tasks?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Susan

Thanks Bob. This will only work if I've backed up my mail files, right? If I haven't ever backed them out then I'm out of luck?
Sorry for my ignorance but can you explain a little further about "Be aware that if PREVIEW was enabled in Outlook, the exploits could have done the damage and not your work"
1. The article helps you identify the files you are looking for, and where in Outlook it expected to find them.
2. About PREVIEW in Outlook. While it's best discussed in the Security Forum, Microsoft allows code to be executed from an email even if you don't open it. The PREVIEW is much like opening email, so the exploit and damage is possible. Let's see if I can find a worm/virus that used it?
The KLEZ is a good example. Read http://www.scsb.org/klezinfo.htm
Since it's a simple off setting, I must tell you I won't supply a name of today's pests that use this and similar EXPLOITS.
Best of luck,
And be safe,
Bob
