General discussion

emails won't download

Jul 26, 2004 12:40PM PDT

Someone has sent us some pictures as attachments in emails. When I checked my email (Using OE6 on XP) this evening one email came through then got the message "recieving message 2 of 13", it stayed like that for over ten minutes so I shut down OE restarted the computer and tried again.I have now recieved the same picture 15 times yet still each time I check my email only the first one gets through, always the same picture and after that I get "receiving message 2 of 13"

What can I do about this?

Go get MAILWASHER, set it up and delete that email if your ISP doesn't offer a way to do this.

I have to say, Bob, Mailwasher's been about as useful as a chocolate teapot since It insists my mail account doesn't exist.

What I'd like to know is, how does it happen that someone sends me one photo and I keep getting it over and over again every time I check my email? I'd like to know this so I can avoid it happening again or so I can tell my friend what she's done wrong.

This seems like you didn't correctly configure/setup Mailwasher, I would say. I don't know the program, but it's a reputable one, so it should work.

Does your ISP offer webmail? That's a good way to view or delete mails, or just download the pictures.

Did you try to download and setup another mail client? Like Mozilla Thunderbird or Pegasus. Both are free. These might behave otherwise.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kees

Guess what, I just discovered how useful chocolate teapots can be.The mailwasher worked fine so cheers to Bob for that.I just hadn't configured my brain properly.

Haven't tried any other mail clients yet and won't have time for ages but you can bet I will when I do.
Mostly I use hotmail or yahoo though.

Still mystified as to how this happened.Turns out one of the files was 13MB. I spoke to the friend who sent it today, she sent some photos from her digital camera, not just to me but CC'd them to four other recipients who all got them with no trouble. It was only me had the problem.Odd thing is a similar thing happened in reverse a while back.I sent a map as an attachment to a friend and she ended up getting it about fifty times.

Just back. And cheers to you for persistance.

I hope you see what a good little hammer MAILWASHER can be.
