email troubles using Mozilla

Mar 31, 2004 1:25PM PST

Want to make my typing in emails to be BOLD and LARGER than the default type setting. Have looked everywhere for these settings to change but cannot find them. It is cumbersome to have to change settings for each email and then they often do not hold from line to line in a paragraph.

Am running XP Pro but the XP forum was unable to help me and I seem to have lost the post there. My email is Mozilla and I use OE browser.

You can make the font size bigger with no problem, but making it bold would require some tinkering with the text configuration files.

Just go to the Mail and News settings and then Composition and you can set the font size to something larger. If you want an option for making it bold, submit a feature request via Bugzilla. It's probably a pretty simple matter to add, but very few people want it.

I have been to Mail and News settings and then Composition - but on my XP Pro this window does not provide anyplace to adjust font size. Have found a place on Preferences and then Message Display and have set the font at Bold and Bigger but it does not work in emails. Have retried this many times to no avail. Will try Bugzilla and see what they have to offer. Am thinking all the replies I get re XP might not refer to the Pro 2002 Version. Thank you for your help.

Kees Bakker - have done all the ideas you suggest - Preferences, Help and the Mozilla site but so far have not been able to come up with any solution. Might have to return to Outlook Exp. though I had many many problems which is why I am on MOzilla. Thanks for your ideas and suggestions.

I never had any problem at all with the program.

Or just try one of the other e-mail clients, like
- Mozilla Thunderbird (new specialised e-mail client, www.mozilla.org)
- Pegasus mail (www.pmail.com)
- Eudora (www.eudora.com)
- MS Outlook (part of MS Office)

Anyone of those might have the features you like, without the problems you don't like.

Hope this helps,

Kees

The real question is: Why are you using Internet Explorer? Kees, since Outlook Express is more of a security problem than Internet Explorer, many people won't use it. Not looking for debate on the issue, just pointing out that the answer didn't match the question.
In my Mozilla toolbar, I choose edit-preferences-mail and newsgroups-message display. In this there are drop downs for style(bold, italic, etc)and size(regular, bigger, smaller). There a toolbar tab for view to change size by percentage. Hope this helps. chuck

Chuck: I found the exact same spot that you are talking about and in the drop down menus I set it for "larger" and "bold", then clicked OK. However, when I bring up an email to use the new settings - they did not change for some reason. Have I forgotten to push some button to set the settings?

Chuck,

"just pointing out that the answer didn't match the question"

Definitely true, but if you read the whole discussion above, you'll see that for some reason nondaj couldn't find the settings pointed to by both yewanchors and me. So as alternative solution, I suggested looking at Outlook Express. The issue here was not security, but user interface.

With your help, nondaj finally found the settings (which is much better indeed), but they don't seem to work with him. Let's hope that together the two of you can work out the problem.

Thanks Kees - will look into the programs you mention as alternative email programs.

nondaj, don't have a clue why settings didn't work. In
fact, Ive never had a need to change the settings from the norm.
If you use Outlook Express(and millions do), make sure all security, anti-virus, and adware/spyware programs are up to date. chuck
