Question

Email messages move from OE to Outlook 2003 Separate Comput

Nov 3, 2012 10:39PM PDT

I've googled till my mind is boggled. I need to move email messages from Outlook Express on the XP computer to Outlook 2003 on another, Vista, computer. Neither computer has both OE and Outlook installed. As far as I can find I MUST have both installed on one computer. I've used up all my installs from the Office 2003 CD.

What's the best way to go about this? Install a free trial of Outlook 2003 on the XP c omputer? Where do I find a free trial? Or install a free trial of OE on the Vista computer? Again, which free OE do I install? I looked on CNET and there are several which all seem to be somewhat different and I don't know which to use.

IS it at all possible to move the email messages without having both OE and Outlook on the same computer?

I'd try an 2003 install from your CD without activation (just disconnect from Internet) on the XP computer. You can't install OE in Vista, so it's your only chance.

Now Getting a Translation Warning
Nov 4, 2012 1:14AM PDT

Thank you. That worked and I was able to copy the resulting .pst files from Outlook on the XP computer to a flash drive. But when I try to import from the flash drive into Outlook on Vista computer I get a "Translation Warning" It says the location I am trying to import TO does not fully support Unicode and that I might lose multlingual data. As far as I know I don't have any multilingual data. Plus it says a Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders File will support Unicode, which is where I think I am trying to move it to anyway. And then to top it all off it says I can move where I want anyway, with poetential loss aforementionned, but when I click OK nothing happens and I exit the screen.

Plus, I tried to google up on this and it seems Outlook 2003 doesn't use multilingual Unicode anyway?

Arrggghhhh.

Any ideas?

MSFT's error messages are often broke or worse. And you can always research those on google if you must.

SUCCESS

FAit Accompli. Seems I had to screw my face up a certain way and wait a long time but on about the sixth try it just went, after saying it was not responding. Email messages are now moved. Thanks Kees.
