email issues

I've been trying to get my webmail addresses to work with my outlook express and having problems. The program has no problem getting the mail from my ISP account, but I can't get free accounts like hotmail, yahoo or gmail to work. I tried using thunderbird to get them and I had the same results. For gmail, it tells me that the server responded with " " (nothing) and with yahoo it prompts for my password. When I give the password, it doesn't accept it. It responds and tells me that it doesn't like the password, so I should go to http://mail.yahoo.com. But my password is right. For outlook express, my errors are numbers that I don't understand.

Before anyone tells me that I need to check my settings for incoming and outgoing servers, I used those given at this site: http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/tips/mail-settings.html

First of all, to have Outlook Express to work with Yahoo.com mail, It's a paid service. If you have a paid service then click on the link below

http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-06.html

For hotmail.com email, if you have an older account then you can use Outlook Express. If not, then you have to pay to use this option. If you have paid or older account then click on the link below

As for gmail.com

sign in

click settings

click forwarding and pop

configuration instructions

click on the program you are using

and following the instructions

Please remember to do the special instructions listed below

* Did you click 'Save Changes' after enabling POP in Gmail? To ensure that Gmail can communicate with your mail client, be sure to click 'Save Changes' on the Gmail 'Mail Settings' page.

That should make everything work

Internet Mail

Yeah...Microsoft has basically disallowed that sort of thing, so now you can only use that function if you have a paid Hotmail account.

You can always try using something like Netscape Communicator or some other third-party email program, but be careful--they tend to grab the default email rights from Outlook.

Hope this help you. Wink

Hotmail account and Outlook

the others are right about having to pay Hotmail to make it work with out look. I actually just went to the sign in page for my Hotmail account and went to File/Send to Desktop - create shortcut. it makes it easier to get right to the sign on page instead of going to IE/Hotmail.com....
