Question

Email forwarding via Gmail & Starfleet.com

May 29, 2014 1:45AM PDT

Hello!

I recently purchased an email through Starfleet.com.
I then created a corresponding email through Gmail as I am used to gmail.

I set up the Starfleet.com email service to forward the messages I recieve there to my Gmail account. No problems there.
I can send mail via my Gmail account with the sent address as XXXXXX@gmail.com. No problems.

But, when I try and set up Gmail to send mail as XXXXX@starfleet.com, I receive an error:

"Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the relay mail.starfleet.com by mail.starfleet.com. [72.1.219.41].

The error that the other server returned was:
535 Incorrect authentication data (SMTP AUTH failed with the remote server)Technical details of permanent failure:

------

I feel as if there is just some box I didn't check somewhere discreet as this really shouldn't be an issue.

If it's any help, when I set up the Starfleet email as a forwarding address, I lose all access to it as a mail inbox.

Thanks for ANY help in advance,
JP

It's a paid service.

If they can't fix this, get a refund and move to the next supplier. It is that simple.

Hi LameSkeptik.

I originally did exactly the same as you, and ended up also not getting it to work, I soon realized that my mistake was setting up the Starfleet.com account to forward to my Gmail and then switched it to a normal mail account, realizing that you can accomplish the same thing, by setting your gmail account up to "fetch" the mail from the "starfleet.com" server and then setting up gmail to send through the "starfleet.com" server.

You see the problem was that when the starfleet.com account is set as a forwarder, then the normal POP and SMTP functionality gets disabled, cause technically if it is forwarding to another account then it is assumed that you will use the "other account" to send the mail as well.

Here is a short "How to" to get it setup:

First Setup account as a normal account and not a forwarder under www.starfleet.com

Second Log into Gmail web interface on your web browser.

Then click on the Gear top right, and go to settings.

Go to Accounts and Import.

Go to Send mail as:
And "Add another email address you own"

SMTP SERVER:
mail.starfleet.com
Port:
465
SSL
Username: starfleet.com full email addresses
Password: starfleet.com password

Then Go to:
"Check mail from other accounts (using POP3):
Username: starfleet.com full email addresses
Password: starfleet.com password
Port:
110
