Emachines T6522 at Circuit City

Jul 24, 2005 2:19AM PDT

Well, Circuit City has finally advertised the T6522. It is being listed as part of a package deal that includes a monitor and a printer for $660.

I purchased the T6522 two weeks ago for $700 (after rebate) without the monitor and printer. Circuit City has told me that I qualify for the package.

I'm still satisfied with my system, and this deal makes it even better.

In other discussions I've published some stats that I gleaned from my system. Here are a few references.

Several people have had problems with noise from the hard drive. It may be related to the mounting, not the drive, but I've not experienced the problem so I cannot say.

Like many others, I have had problems creating the recovery disk on DVD (but no problem creating it with the supplied CDs).

T6522

That is probably the best computer deal I've ever seen. A socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1gb of RAM, 200gb harddrive, and a TV tuner and remote all for $700 after $50 rebate. Alls you need is a decent PCI-E graphics card and you have a machine that will do just about anything very well and will last for some years.

I wish I had $700 on me lol.

Anyone know any specs on this one? Is it like the T6212? Saw it in this weeks advertisements.

$$$ Rebate Question $$$
Jul 25, 2005 5:28AM PDT

The CircuitCity web site indicates $659.97--after $300.00 in rebates.

However, when you click "Rebate Details", it only indicates $200.00 in available rebates.

Obviously a mistake somewhere. The final system bundle price might be $759.97. Still a great price, but not what is advertised.

Missing rebate....
Jul 25, 2005 6:31AM PDT

If I was buying I would ask for them to live up to that extra $100 rebate at the register. Perhaps that $100 covers the rebates on the monitor & printer which they failed to publish, but in any event I would ask for the $100 that is missing from their advertisement.

There have been times that a store made a mistake on pricing in their advertisement, but have always honored it for me when I showed them the ad and requested that ad price before they made a retraction. (Otherwise I ask for gas milage in driving all the way out to their store ..jokingly...but now-a-days...the price of gas) Wink

Nope - the price is right!

I did the same research that you did, and was prepared to argue the point when I went in to take advantage of the deal. But I had no problem, and walked out with a sheaf of rebate certificates. Breaks down like this:

Costs (ignoring taxes & the pennies):
Emach T6522 $750
Emach EView17F3 $160
Canon IP1500 $50
======================
Total Cost: $960

Rebates:
PC Desktop Pkg $150
Emach T6522 $50
Emach EView17F3 $50
T6522 & IP1500 $50
=====================
Total Rebate: $300

Final Cost: $660

All these rebates go to different addresses, so I should include the cost of postage too!

PC - package deal
Jul 26, 2005 1:25AM PDT

I just bought the T6522 less than two weeks ago.

Are you saying that I should be eligible for the "package" deal as well?

Did you just purchase the additional monitor and printer---and CircuitCity generated rebate slips for the package deal for you?

Did they give you any hassle over this?

Thanks for the info.

T6522 Package
Jul 26, 2005 3:26AM PDT

I bought mine about the same time (July 7th I think). I just returned to the store with the receipt and a copy of the flyer, and took them to the customer service desk. They refunded the original PC, then charged me for all three items. I paid the difference. They then issued a sheaf of rebate forms, and I walked out with the monitor and printer.

I called their customer service number in advance to confirm my eligibility. I had no problems from them, nor from the store folks.

T6522 Package
Jul 27, 2005 12:29AM PDT

Following Jemulho's suggestion, I returned to CircuitCity yesterday and received a refund/re-charge on my T6522 purchase and added the monitor/printer package.

Even with taxes, after rebates, I'll have paid twenty-five dollars less for this package than I paid for just the computer ten days ago.

Thanks a bunch.

Where did you find out about the 939-pin?
Jul 27, 2005 1:39AM PDT

I've looked at eMachines site and they only AMD motherboard they list is a Socket A. Socket A is one of the three AMD sockets, right? A, 939, 940, If it is there aren't very many socket A processors, but plently of M Processor.

LOL.......You must be joking.....
Jul 27, 2005 11:35AM PDT

Emachine's T6522, T6520 and T6410 all have AMD Athlon 64 processors and cannot be ''Socket A''. They have socket 754 or 939 depending on the particular processor furnished. For instance the AMD Athlon 64 processor:
4000 is sold in socket 939
3800 is sold in socket 939
3500 is sold in socket 939
3400 is sold in socket 754 (unless something special that I don't know about)
3700 is sold in socket 939 or 754
3200 is sold in socket 939 or 754
3000 is sold in socket 939 or 754
2800 is sold in socket 939 or 754

Look at the Circuit City ad....it shows the T6522 as AMD Athlon 64 3500. AMD would have to be selling Emachine something weird for the 3500 to be anything other than socket 939. Course' weird things do happen. Wink

T6522 Emachines
Jul 25, 2005 2:07AM PDT

Greetings! I read your quick review on the Emachines T6522 and I was wondering if you think this would be good for my son who likes to play computer games? I need to kick him off my computer and promised him a desktop for his birthday. I have done research and I think this system looks good, do you agree? He likes the look and system specs from Cyberpower.com but I am unsure of buying from an unknown company. The Emachine is on sale at Circuit city for $659.99 with monitor and printer. I did not see the deal on the web but it was in Sundays Paper.

Assume you meant http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/
as cyberpower.com is some sort of chat link

Some earlier comment this year on Cyberpowersystem:
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7586-0.html?forumID=68&threadID=61180&messageID=726148

You didn't list the specs of the Cyberpower computer he wanted, so can't compare, but the emachine T6522 is hard to beat for the price. As a gaming machine the only thing that would need to be replaced is the Integrated on board graphics to a good PCIe video card. The current graphics may not play all the high end modern games very well, if at all. Depending on how high a graphics card you install, the usual 300W power supply that emachines is currently putting on new computers may need to be replaced with a higher wattage PS.

T6522 for gaming
Jul 25, 2005 7:49AM PDT

I would agree with John. I can't give too many firsthand experiences, since I haven't used it for gaming yet, and that's not my main goal anyhow. But based on what I've read elsewhere, there's nothing but the integrated graphics to stop this being a great gaming machine. Put in a good video card and you're set.

Of course, there's more you could do. The monitor that comes with the package is not the greatest, and I've commented before about the hard drive. But neither should interfere with a good gaming experience once you have a good video card.

Gaming Card and Monitor
Jul 27, 2005 2:05AM PDT

I am going to purchase The Emachines T6522. You mentioned something about a video card? Is that something I do myself or should I have Circuit City upgrade it before I take it home. I also wanted a LCD monitor and was curious if the rebate applies to any LCD bundles?
When I buy this desktop the sales people will probably try to sell me a whole bunch of cords etc... do I need to buy anything other than the bundled package to setup and use this desktop?

Ur choice
Jul 27, 2005 8:07AM PDT

Yes, a video card. There are many choices avaible: the top ( and pretty much only) competitors are Nvidia and ATi. Some people are choosing Nvidia over ati because all SERIES 6 cards from nvidia have shader thingy 3.0, while ATI is using shader thingy 2.0. there is talk that these 3.0 shader thingies will be needed in future games: my bet: 6600GT or 6600. If u got the cash, go for a 6800, even a GT. Its your choide whether you want to put it in. Putting one is VERY simple. You uninstall the drivers for the first one, put the new one in, and put the drivers in for the 2nd one. Then your done! BUT, I'm not sure: You might viod ur warranty, and Circuit City, if they install it, might not... Not sure abou the rebate though. Many cables... Well, in total, you'll have these things plugged into ur PC: mouse, keyboard, internet, sound, monitor, and some peripherals. Almost every single one of these items COMES with its cables. The ONLY thing i'm not sure is the monitor cable, which 99% of time comes with a cable, and the peripherals. thats like ur printer, camera, etc. If anyone has any new things to add, please do so, i'm new to this topic.
-thanks!

The only cord you might need to buy is a USB cord for the printer. It doesn't come with one.

HP 1130N
Jul 29, 2005 2:24AM PDT

I just bought the Emachines 6522, and have no complaints, but have noticed the HP1130N - $679 at Circuit City (after rebate). This is by $20 than the 6522. Both have an AMD 3500+, and are similar in all other respects expect for two - HP has a 250 GB hard drive, the 6522 has 200 GB. The HP is a serial ata hard drive, the Emachines IDP. Emachines has a tv tuner, and HP lacks it. So, for $20 less you get both a bigger and better hard drive without a tv tuner. What can a tv tuner cost? I'm not familiar with HP machines, however, so certainly reliability and customer service should also be a factor in deciding. Truth be told, had the HP deal been out when I bought, I would have went that route. Still, like I said, no complaints with the 6522 - has worked great since I turned it on.

T6522 compared to HP1130N
Jul 31, 2005 7:44AM PDT

Can you upgrade the video card and is it PCI Express? If it uses shared memory for the video it will be a bottleneck unless you can upgrade it.

I do prefer the SATA hard drive over the EIDE drive. Also, the DVD burner might be a little better in the HP, but I'm just guessing.

Is this HP model using the media center OS?
