EMachines T6212 Display

Jun 13, 2005 1:40AM PDT

I have the T6212, I added a 18" Microtek Flat Screen and every time I turn the desktop on the computer will not boot up all the way. It stops at the big "E". The only way that I can get it boot all the way is by unplugging the monitor, booting the computer, and then plug the monitor back in a few moments later.

Also, I want to upgrade my RAM. Any easy and affordable suggestions. I'm not good with computer, just want all my programs to be able to run quicker when several of them are on. Also, Is it hard to install?

Thanks everybody ahead of time for your help.

The ram depends on what your motherboard's compatible with. It's probably one of the regular DDR types. Between something like PC2700 and PC3200, choose 2700 if you're not sure. These things are backward compatible, and there's not much speed difference anyway.

Not sure about the monitor. How can a monitor do something like that? Are you sure it's the monitor's fault? Maybe it's just the graphics card causing error when there's *any* monitor plugged in... Just a guess though...

I bought Corsair RAM
Jun 13, 2005 3:02AM PDT

I have the Emachines t6212. I bought Corsair Value Select RAM, two sticks of it (512x2), and plopped them in there. It couldnt be easier to install. Open up the case and you will see two existing sticks inside. I took those two out, put in the new sticks where the old sticks were, then put the old sticks in the remaining two slots. After that, just put the case back on and boot up the computer. The computer should automatically recognize the RAM, and you're done! This RAM has gotten great reviews, it sped up my system, and is very affordable! And really, it is very easy to install. Here it is from Newegg, I received the RAM in 2 days!

Value RAM

Don't be fooled by the word "value." It's as good as any other ram. Also, there are other "value" rams. Shop around.

Monitor Needs driver and RAM is DDR 400 (PC3200)
Jun 13, 2005 3:44AM PDT

Once you get the monitor up, I'd suggest you (A) install the driver that came with it (if one did) and/or (B) download from the company's website. Also, check your refresh rate and what size your display is. My monitor maxes out at 75 MhZ, but I am allowed to select higher. DON'T select higher than it's capable. It will DAMAGE THE MONITOR! (There is a feature when you right-click the desktop and select Properties-->Settings--Advanced--->Monitor where you can check to "Hide modes this monitor can't display," but mine is "grayed-out". I would check that box, then set it at it's highest).

As far as RAM, eMachines recommends Crucial, Geil, Kingston and a few others. Check their website. Don't get the PC2700. While it's less expensive, the 3200 is faster. Also, buy and install in pairs for this system. I made the mistake of installing a 1 GB stick with the existing 2 X 256 and it only registered 1.25 GB. Buy in pairs.

Good luck with the monitor - that might take a little bit of fiddling with.

Monitor Reply

Thanks for everyones help. The orginal monitor that the bundle came with works great, even when you turn it on. The Microtek 18" is causing the problems. I'm going to try everything out, if it gets bad you may see another post. Thanks to all!
