Emachine wont boot- vista

by mehl64 / October 15, 2009 12:16 AM PDT

Hello,
I have an Emachine thats having some issues.
W3609 is the model, Windows Vista Home Basic.
It will not boot. When i turn it on, it goes to:
"windows error recovery
windows could not start."
i select either start windows normally--which brings me back to the error recovery screen.
Or i select start windows repair---which then goes to a black screen, with the emachines logo, and "please wait...". This continues for hours, never making any progress.

I tried all of the boot options (last good config, safe mode, ect ect), all of them bring me back to error recovery page. Passed the vista memory test.

Booting with the vista cd doesnt work either, when "repair OS" is selected, it searches for errors, and then stays on attempting to fix errors, for up to 12 hours so far.

any ideas? Thinking it might be a hard drive issue... But the BIOS recognize it just fine.

Tried unplugging and replugging the hard drive. tried a new stick of ram even though it passed the mem test.

any ideas?

Try another hard drive. Comparatively cheap to the alternative.

But FIRST try this -> Unplug ALL USB devices you can. Keyboard would, could be an exception.

everything but kb mouse and monitor unplugged--no change.
Ran the life guard for western digital hdd. It failed to repair, "too many errors, contact technical support" I found a few posts about this online about trying to zero the hard drive, and start clean.
Should i try zeroing the hard drive? if so, when i finish zeroing, will the vista install disc have everything it needs to get it back up and running (hardware drivers ect, will vista install let me format the drive, or do i need another program to do that after wipe)

Meet the drop-resistant Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force is really thin, with a fast processor and great battery life. It can survive drops without shattering.
