If so change boot order to HDD first.
No good try this, if you have a CD drive and a DVD drive not a combo try hooking just one optical drive and see if it boots normally.
It sound like driver resource conflict. How did you know to try disconnecting the optical drivers? That seems like a stroke of good luck.
Sounds goofy? It is. I had Win 98 on this computer and upgraded to XP Pro. (I've done this a few 100 times) and after installation, xp would not boot completely. It will hang on the logo window.
I WILL boot in safe mode, so I though "driver". I disconnected the cd & DVD drive and it will boot fine in normal mode. Nothing has changed. Before you say jumpers, why would it not work now? All the jumpers (or lack of) are cable select, which should work.
