eMachine C3060 with Windows XP Upgrade 2 installed

Apr 26, 2005 11:00AM PDT

Machine purchased from COSTCO (thank God - more about this later) n March 2005. It also included Nortons AntiVirus for 90 days and McAfee's Firewall for 30 days.

No matter what I did or didn't do either the keyboard would drop out (light on but no action) or mouse would freeze. Would also get notification of possible virus.

I restored from blank TEN (10) times. When I thought I had a handle on what might be the problem I called there support line. The tech was very patient, but when he told me:

> He thought that I had a hardware problem (he sent me a new keyboard) which did not work, until I again restored, but did not inable all of the funcutions, even though I uninstalled, reinstalled after looking for additional divers.
> If the keyboard did not work to call again and that I would have to send the tower in for repair.
> That I couldn't have more than one mouse installed at a time because I would burn out the mouse port.
> That Fix It wasn't part of Norton's suite.
> That Live Update wasn't part of Norton's.
> That the uninstall feature would uninstall all of Norton.

I felt that I was getting the run around. That I needed to listen to that little voice inside that said I know more than I think I do - SOFTWARE NOT HARDWARE was the problem.

THANK YOU to all of you for your comments on eMachine Support.

I felt that I had a sofeware problem with the security
and the OS. But I had problems with adding another sofeware when I handed touched the security system after a restore.

Fortunately, I bought the computer at COSTCO which has a six month return policy. So I decided that I would limp along until I had the $$$ to get something else.

I fried my old computer trying to get rid of a worm, so I want to make sure that I have good security. I need the computer as I am physically challenged and use the computer to write. I'm so far behind in the things I need/want to do.

But I was able to limp along enough so that more $$$ flowed.

So the new computer, a Dell 8400 is on it's way and this computer will be returned to COSTCO.

I know that I may be getting into more problems because the root of the problem may be XP2, but the computer is also being bought from COSTCO online with the three year in home service - if this doesn't work out COSTCO is just about the block and they will except online returns. By the way, Sam's also has the same 6 month return policy.

Anyway, your posts have been a great help in my decision to return the eMachine and buy a Dell, but at the same time by watching my back so that I will habe 6 months to return the Dell.
