ELURA70: Problems with ZOOM

Mar 6, 2005 4:50PM PST

Hello,

Ever since I purchased the Elura 70 some 3-4 months ago, I've had some issues when zooming in. I have used a couple of different cameras, with which I never had any similar problems. What happens? Well, I zoom in and the picture gets blurry. Every camera I've used would zoom in just fine, and it would zoom in quite fast, with no loss to the picture quality due to the speed of zooming in or out. The Elura just won't do it. To zoom in just one small bit I have to do it extremely slow. Even then it'll zoom in to a certain point, after which all you get is a blurry picture that won't get sharp even if you give it some time. So I've checked my settings, trying to figure out if something is set badly, and found nothing.
Has anyone had any similar problems with any cameras?

Thanks a lot!

Have you turned digital zoom OFF?

Digital zoom is practically useless. If you haven't turned it off, turning it off may help.

Hi,

It's turned off. That's one of the first things that came to my mind when I experienced this problem.

I assume auto focus is turned on?

Perhaps it should be returned for service.

Yes, auto focus is turned on. So you think something actually is wrong with the camera? As I said in my post, this has been the case from the moment I purchased it. I have not changed any settings that could have led to this.

It sure sounds like it. A dealer should be able to tell you

if it's a camera defect or a setting.

Thank you Kiddpeat for your help. I'm contacting the seller right away.
Anyhow, I'd like to ask one more thing in regard to cameras in general. Everything I record, I record in 16:9. However, when I connect my camera to a TV what I see is not 16:9, but rather something that looks like regular TV 4:3, but with picture being quite distorted (due to 16:9 used while recording). Someone told me that this doesn't have anything to do with the TV itself, as the TV should show it the way it was recorded. Is this correct, and if so, does this imply that this may be another issue with my Elura or is just a thing that may be fixed by changing the settings?

Once again, thanks a lot!

Cheers,
