Elton John to marry

Apr 24, 2005 11:16PM PDT
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200504/s1353097.htm

Flamboyant British pop star Elton John intends to marry his long-time partner, David Furnish, before the end of the year in a civil ceremony, he said in an newspaper interview published on Monday.

Full gay marriages are not permitted in Britain.

However, after December 5, homosexual couples will be able to have "civil partnerships" recognised under law, allowing them some of the same tax and inheritance benefits enjoyed under marriage.

The marriage to Mr Furnish will be Sir Elton's second.

The singer had wed German music engineer Renate Blauel in 1984 but they divorced four years later.

I have always enjoyed his music, and would love to see one of his shows. He's quite the entertainer.

That's what Britain has to do with it. Unless I'm missing your point.

I think you are.

He has residences in a dozen countries that won't let him marry there either. IT'S NOT JUST BRITIAN, it's most of the world if not all.

And I think you are wrong

Residence is one thing citizenship another.Sir Elton John is a citizen of the United Kingdom and thus can rely on the laws of UK.Apart from that,it seems he's getting married in England. So whether he resides in Kabul or Georgia doesn't matter.

Residence's matter when the point IS

none of the countries want this nonsense, not just England and Canada. You can get married in either of the mates countries but you have to acquire a license first, not just mean old England.

Pretty soon Gays in England will have a voting majority and Gays will be allowed to marry Happy

Elton John plans to wed Cdn. partner

LONDON (AP) - Pop singer Elton John will marry his longtime partner David Furnish later this year or early next year, his publicist said Monday.

Britain's The Mirror tabloid newspaper reported Monday that John, 58, would marry his 42-year-old Canadian partner before Christmas. Laws recognizing homosexual civil partnerships come into effect in Britain in Dec. 5. John's spokesman Gary Furrow told British Broadcasting Corp. the nuptials may be postponed until 2006.

"A date and a venue has not been set, so it may not be until next year," Furrow told the BBC.

Bill to legalize gay marriage clears first legislative hurdle

A bill to legalize same-sex marriage in California cleared an Assembly committee Tuesday despite arguments that it violates a gay marriage ban voters approved five years ago.

The partisan 6-3 vote by the Assembly Judiciary Committee marked the first test this year for the measure, which would amend the state family code to define marriage as between "two persons" instead of between a man and a woman.

Even with the bill's legality in dispute, the issue percolating in the courts and its prospects for getting signed into law uncertain, supporters said it was important for lawmakers to back extending marriage licenses to gays and lesbians.

It was not so long ago in California that you couldn't marry someone who was of a different ethnicity than yourself

I've read that many laws that get changed in the USA start out in California.

Could this be the "start of something"?

Few things are insulting in your opinion as long as they are in accordance with your believes.God forbid somebody said Mr.Killer to a Veteran.

How about the following:

Mr.Crippled
Mr.Sick
Mr.Mentally ill

Mr.can of course be substituted by Ms.or Mrs.or Sir.

I don't find to be gay anything negative, but neither is it to be crippled, mentally ill nor sick.

You realize ...
Apr 25, 2005 8:17PM PDT

... YOU just insulted the gay community by insinuating being gay is akin to a disability (crippled) or disease (sick or mentally ill). If you don't find these to be negative, BTW, why bluster about how calling someone those names is insulting?

He has never.....

.... hidden his sexual preference, and has been very comfortable with who he is.

Do you get the TV channel, "Bravo"? They have a series entitled "***** Eye for the Straight Guy", and there is a sister show in Britain. In it 4 gay men help a straight man as to his appearance, some social skills, etc.

Watching the show and listening to the dialogue gives some good insight into gay men who are quite comfortable with themselves. They, like Elton, do not look upon themselves as having a an affliction like you cited in a post above.

Elton John's fans have always known he is gay, but appreciate his talents as a musician, songwriter, and performer.

Just wanted to point out that I think that when Jerry(if it was him)said Sir Gay,I doubt he said it in a loving respectful way.If he did say it as a nice thing in order to show his support and happiness for Sir Elton and his importance for the gay community,I apologize.
I never insinuated that being gay was an illness.I compared the way addressing gays to other groups or communities in order to be clear.Sir Gay sounds as insulting to me as do Sir Crippled! That doesnt mean that I think homosexuality is some kind of affliction at all.I hope even the people here have understood me correctly now.If not, there is nothing I can do about it.
