New Dell desktop, Win 8.1, Mozilla Firefox , free McAfee virus protection.

How can I eliminate pop ups and redirects?

On Firefox I add a few things.

Besides Firefox's own settings I add AdBlock+ and Web Of Trust.

HOWEVER, redirection done at the web site should not be blocked. There is malware that McAfee does not block or remove (long story about court cases where the adware folk demanded the antivirus companies keep their hands off their adware.)

If Adblock and WOT doesn't help, try scanning with tools (free) noted by Grif at

I would add

I would add NoScript to that list. Yes, it will require some effort to go through each domain for new sites and figure out which ones are actually needed for the site to operate and which are just there to spy on you, but the result is that you have some pretty strong protection against virtually all JavaScript based attacks. Not to mention you can reclaim at least some of your privacy. These forums, for example, load scripts from no less than 7 domains which are all advertising oriented, more than one of which does nothing more than monitor your activity on the site.
