Question

El Capitan and CD Drives

Oct 7, 2015 9:15PM PDT

Hi --
Last week I ordered (at a Mac store), the Macbook Pro without Retina, especially for the internal CD drive. Maybe a day or 2 before my order, I saw that that Mac was now loaded with El Capitan, instead of Yosemite. I didn't think much of it until today when I was looking for information/screen shots on El Capitan and came across the Disk Utility screen which boasted the removal of "now outmoded" burn and erase functions. I called Apple to try to determine if I was going to be able to read and burn cds with El Capitan but got a couple of flaky "confirmations". Does anyone know how cds are dealt with via El Capitan? This is a deal-breaker for me so if anyone has some insights, I would love to hear them - Thanks

Very helpful - the skinny didn't note a how-to for reading off, listening to, erasing or otherwise using a CD but I will look through their references and forums - Thanks --

Probably because,

reading off and listening to is optical disc 101 and has not changed in the slightest.

Put it in the slot, it mounts on the desktop, if it's audio, iTunes takes over.
or
Put it in the slot, it mounts on the desktop, double click it to open it and see the data

Erasing is covered in the skinny
