It is not possible to repair the main Hard Drive if you have booted your machine from it.
You need to boot the machine from the OS X Installation CD and, once booted, go to the menubar and select Utilities (or something like it)
Inside there you will find Disk Utility.
Now you will find that the Repair Disk option is available. Be aware that Disk First Aid is not likely to be able to repair a severely damaged drive but it is worth a try

Hi to All,
I was unable to eject a CD, even after following all the Help suggestions including using Disk Utility>File>Eject; holding down the click button on reboot; as well as the emergency eject hole. Also tried the firmware option, but there was no sound on reboot, even after holding down the stipulated keys, nada. To compound matters, I couldn't turn the computer off (unless I cut the power), nor restart it under the Apple logo. To reboot, I had to press the lower left button on my tower.
In any event, I was able to FINALLY eject the CD by cutting the power and removing the IDE cable. Voila! it popped out. The other possibility is it ejected using the emergy hole _after_ it was turned off.
That said, I'm unable to repair the damage done on my hard drive according to Disk Utility. The 'repair disk' isn't even highlighted to do so. Any suggestions or help is welcome?!
Below is info on my computer, software, and from Disk Utility. I've crossed post this in a couple other Yahoo Apple forums.
