EIDE/ATA Hard Drive Size/Enclosures

Dec 12, 2010 4:44AM PST

I have an eide/ata hard drive from a dead computer that I need to salvage data from. It measures 4" x 1" x 5.75". I am looking to buy an external enclosure to pop the drive into, but the largest I see out there are 3.5". Are there enclosures out there available for my kind of drive? It's a 160GB MDT drive.

Take your drive with you to the shop and let them show.

What if I'm looking to buy something online?

That 4" you measure ..

is the size of the box. In the box is a rotating disk. That's 3.5".

Personally, I don't buy online if I have a question about the product they can't answer and there is no clear return policy. Then I find the nearest shop that sells such a product and buy there. But that depends on your location, of course.

Perhaps it would be best to post the drive

If the standard Hdd. case don't work then...

maybe an external cd-rom case would do.

The reality is;

that is the dimension of a 3.5" form factor harddrive (nothing unusual about your hdd.). Standard case should do fine. The thing to watch for is..it is for a ide and NOT a SATA drive.
