Editing Software

Apr 1, 2005 2:34PM PST

I have just ordered a Sony DCR-HC90 that can record in 16:9 + an external mic for recording in 5.1.

I'm trying to find software where I can capture and edit in 16:9/5.1 format. I am aware of Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 (which I tried but was very slow on my computer) but was hoping someone could suggest alternatives. I have looked at the top programs from Pinnacle, Canopus, and others but can't find 16:9 mentioned in their specs.

Another deciding factor is my computer which is a Compaq Presario laptop with a 1.5 centrino processor (which they claim is equivalant to a 2.2-2.4)so although I meet the minimum requirements for most of the programs I've looked at, the reality might be a different story.

One last thing. I'm not looking to be the next Spielberg. I just want to edit my home videos in the format they are captured in!

Thanks in advance
Robert

You'll probably need to look at Adobe Premier or Apple's Final Cut Pro HD.

Sony's Vegas 5 can handle the picture requirements

and it supports 5.1 sound. I don't remember seeing 5.1 support in Premiere Pro. I think it only supports stereo output although it does support multi channel input. I can't promise that Vegas will run well on your computer. It runs 'OK' in 512megs, but really prefers a 1gig memory. Also, I suspect your processor is a bit slow for video processing.
