Frankly, I'm not convinced there's any performance benefit from it, however. And there's a good chance of instability or performance hits, too. Dansdata has a good article explaining the 3G limitations of XP and why messing about with boot.ini switches rarely help and frequently hurt:

Hi. I am using Inventor and I need 3G on my system to fully use the program. When I installed it for the 1st time, I edited my "boot.in" as folow: "([boot loader]

Unfortunately, Sunday I had a virus and to had 2format and re-install windows XP again. I did the same with my "new" boot.ini file but does not work. my new "boot.ini" now contains: "/fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn"
At the end of the string. Is that the reason that it don't recognize my "3 G" on boot???
