editing dvr ms type videos

Aug 27, 2005 4:37AM PDT

i have a tv tuner and i recorded a tv show. The problem is that it also recorded commericals and i don't want that. I downloaded the pinnacle studio 9 demo to edit out the commericals but it does not support the video format which is like dvr-ms. Is there a program thats cheap but hopefully free that i can use to convert the video to a format supported by pinnacle such as avi or any others format?

thanks

dvr ms files

These files (dvr ms) are special mpeg2 files saved to disc by your dv recorder program. My system (HP MCExp, 3.2g p4) came with Showbiz 2 software that ''transcodes'' the dvr ms files to plain mpeg2 files that it can edit. The software works flawlessly with my system and produces dvd's that work in most dvd players with excellent video and audio quality. It retails for $99, but can be had for less at Amazon (J&R Music) for $69. From comments about this software elsewhere, it works well in high end systems with fast processors, lots of RAM and fast hard drives. People with more modest systems seem to have trouble with it.
