edit DVD

May 7, 2007 5:19PM PDT

I have some old 8mm home movies that have been put onto DVDs. I now want to edit some parts of these DVDs and copy the edited part to a new DVD.
I have not been able to find a program that will simply allow me to edit the DVD and make a new copy. Can someone make a suggestion.
Regards,
Harry.

"edit the DVD" = DOA.

This will never happen. Why? DVD, the media is usually write once and the session is closed so it's incorrect to look for a DVD editor. Look instance for video editors that can import from your DVD. Some like Ulead and Sony Vegas can import from some but not all DVD camcorders. At least you can try the demo ahead of time.

Another software to look for is DVDREDO (see google.com)

And finally far off the path I will discuss is DVD ripping (see google.)

In closing, this is not a discussion forum so you may want to choose a discussion forum next time.

Bob,
This was my first email so I'm not sure what you mean or what I've done wrong if this is not a discussion forum. What do I need to do and how do I go about it.

Bob just meant that this forum is reserved for discussing forum-related issues, so your question would be best addressed if you clicked here, selected the most relevant forum, and posted there.

As to the task at hand, Bob's right....you can't just edit the DVD as is. You'll need to use DVD-ripping software to 'rip' a copy to your hard drive, modify it there as you wish, and then burn it to a blank DVD using DVD burning software. Nero is an all-in-one suite that can do that, but you may want something more depending on the exact changes you would like to perform.
