Question

Edge browser

Aug 11, 2019 5:59AM PDT

When I boot w10 Edge is loaded and becomes a running process.

How do I stop this from happening and turn Edge into a program that I can click on if I want to use it.

It isn't with me, so it's some setting with you.

Try if autoruns or autoruns64 from https://docs.microsoft.com/sysinternals/ shows from where it's started. All those sysinternals programs are thrustworthy.

It seems that the preloading of Edge is quite easy to stop if you have the pro version.

All I had to do is use google and it's sitting right in front of me.

Thanks.

I found it googling for "stop edge preloading". And I found it ran with me also, after looking under the M, not under the E in task manager.
Since I have Pro, I did it also, although it's hardly relevant for me.

If you have Home, a manual registry edit is required.

An exercise in making the machine skinny.
Running what I need and not a lot of extra stuff.

I spoke too soon even with the gpedit setting Edge came back sometime during a few hour session.
My next step was to use privacy>background task and turn off Edge.
So far I'm not seeing Edge but I will continue to monitor.
