ECS K7VMM+ Motherboard does not recognize CD-ROM

by skytrain / June 22, 2005 7:33 AM PDT

ECS K7VMM+ Motherboard with AMD Duron does not recognize CD-ROM on boot up, although it does recognize the floppy, and the Win 98 SE boot disk does work. Cables have been checked, and so has the CD-ROM and they are OK. It stopped working before a new BIOS was flashed and it is still the same after. I tried swapping a good hard drive with a good install of Win 98 SE from another ECS + Duron machine of the same vintage, but it gets stuck looking for drivers on boot up, which I can not give it because it doesnt see the CD-ROM.

ECS + Duron machine of the same vintage,

Well ECS boards do not last forever.
What do you see when you go into BIOS??
I assume the CD is Secondary Master.
How did you check the CD-Rom to prove it was OK?
Did you try the CD-ROM in the other PC? Swapping the CD-ROMs woulb be a first try before swapping HD.
Why did you flash the BIOS? John

CD ROMs and cables were tested OK on another machine with a similar motherboard K7SEM. Flashed BIOS on advice from the shop that sold me the ECS, by now the warranty had expired. BIOS update went OK, but still no CD ROM access.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
