ECHO PROBLEM WHEN USING TV and AUDIO OUT FOR REAR SPEAKERs

Dec 23, 2008 2:03AM PST

I have a new LN52A750 LCD-TV. I thought the TV sound from it's speakers was quite good so I ran the stereo audio out from the TV RCA jacks to a rear 25 Watt old stereo Radio Shack amp and two good stereo speakers for the rear sound. WOW! THE ECHO is so bad that you can almost hear the words being spoken twice between the TV and the rear speakers.

WHY isn't the audio out RCA jacks on the TV coming from the TV's audio pre-amp for the TV's audio amplifier? If it were, there would be no ECHO like this. How do I get rid of the echo? All I want to be able to do is add a couple of back speakers, and I think this should be able to be done cheaply without buying some $800 surround system.

GSPearl,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble.

The RCA ports are an analog output. The speakers are hooked up directly to the digital audio processor. To transfer the digital to analog, there is a process that causes a very slight delay. That delay isn't noticable in normal television viewing/listening, but the television was never meant to run both the RCA and the digital audio simultaneously.

It doesn't fix your problem, but that's why this issue is happening, and there is no adjustment for that.

echo can't go bye bye?

OK, so if I get a surround sound receiver, etc., then do I hook it up to the RCA audio out jacks on the back of the tv for 5.1 surround sound?

Or, do I hook it up to the audio out of the Dish network controller or what?

What works correctly?

Thanks

5.1

George,

RCA is only going to pass the 2.0 stereo sound.

Your best bet would be digital optical audio cables. One end goes into the digital out of your Dish box if you have it (then set the box to send 5.1 out) to the digital optical IN on your receiver if you have it (set that to 5.1 also).

Otherwise, you're just repeating the stereo signal in the back. That's not a bad setup, and probably sounds great; but it's not "surround sound'.

I'm open to a dialogue on this if you'd like. I remember you noted that you want to keep the costs relatively cheap, and I can appreciate that.

What do you have, what do you want, and how can I help? Happy
