echo in headphones?

i have a gateway fx p-7805u running windows vista. earlier when i was watching a movie, there was a noticeable echo. i thought that it could be the movie (since i had never seen it before). but then after, i went to watch another movie and, again, an echo. i dont know what to do, or how to fix it. i didnt mess with any sound settings at all. any advice?

i just played with the settings a bit and everything is back to normal now (i hope). if not, then i'll try that. thank you!

This took ages to solve, but I think I now have it - the echo is likely because you are using headphones with a GOLD jack. Ive just tried 2 headphones with gold connections, I get an echo and hear almost no vocal. I always wondered why my seperate stereo system worked perfectly, but Ive now found silver jacked headphones-and they work perfectly too. The stereo system also connects using a silver jack, so its very likely that the laptops sound just isnt compatible with the gold jack connector. Try silver instead
