easy transfer

Feb 16, 2007 10:08AM PST

Hi,
I have a new laptop with Vista. I also have a desktop with xp. I am not sure whether to use easy transfer cable to transfer files to the new laptop or keep all files separate in both machines. Can you carry over viruses when you transfer? Should i just start new with the laptop. Just pondering as i have to decide to buy the cable this weekend. Thanks for your input! While experiencing vista as a newbie, will probably have more questions later. I love vista so far !

Transfer files....

...from XP to Vista. What I do:

Backup(i.e. copy) the files at XP, to CDs. Surely, you have invested in a burner ? Or use the CD burner at the laptop, if available. I then use these CDs for Vista to copy the files over to the HD. After that, you still have the backup Happy . With the new Vista, anythng can happen. That cable may be useless without tweaking at Vista. XP and Vista may not shake hands with each other.

Data transfer XP to Vista

I used the Belkin easy transfer cable for windows Vista and it was as easy to use as anything, simply installed the software onto the XP machine and plugged in the USB cable. I transferred over 250GB from my old machine to Vista overnight, it even transfers all your emails, folder settings etc. Brilliant value for money at
