Easy to use GPS

Can anyone recommend an easy to use GPS for my 87 year old father to use in his car? He's alert, oriented, and a safe driver, but he occasionally gets lost, as he did today. He lives on Staten Island, NY, and only drives on Staten Island. Is there a basic unit that he could just plug in his destination, and the written and verbal directions would be given to him?
I would appreciate any help you could give me.

Tomtom for the after I bought the car and the car with GPS are nice enough. So ... Tomtom.
