easy QA for someone computer smart

by dolan1025 / January 28, 2010 7:39 AM PST

Ok heres the deal: My gf's mother just bought a new desktop and laptop.

the laptop is all setup to wireless and is all good and dandy BUT the desktop is my problem.

She has verizon and 1 desktop already in the house has internet access through a router. For her to get on the internet on this other desktop, does she need another router or is there something else she can do?

Thanks so much- were trying to set it up right now and its bloody frustrating.

You may want to buy an Ethernet cord to plug into the Ethernet port on the back of your PC and the other end into your router, if there are enough ports. The more expensive option is buying a wireless adapter and using that to connect wireless to the router.

Most wireless routers have more than one ethernet port on the back of the router.. As such, if there are four ethernet ports for example, simply use another ethernet cable to plug the second desktop into the router.. If there are no other ethernet ports on the router, you'll need to consider which is better/cheaper for your situation.. Installing a wireless adapter on the second desktop or purchasing a simple four or five port "switch" and connecting it to the router. You can then plug multiple ethernet cables/computers into the switch.

Hope this helps.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
