Easiest way to update 1-4 year old webpages ?

Feb 28, 2005 6:18PM PST

Is there a preferred method to upgrade 100 webpages that are 1-4 years old ? They were created using DW 2-4.
I just starting using DW MX 2004, which has the "Browser Support Alert " panel. Many of the pages show 40-70 errors in the panel, that would show-up in the newer/newest browsers. The errors are: - Saying mostly " value 1 is not supported .... etc.
- The height attribute of TABLE tags is not supported .... etc.
- Unsupported value for valign attribute ...etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to update the pages without rebuilding the whole page ?
Thank you .. in advance !!

% of people using which browsers ?

Slim,

Thanks, you are correct. That option is there. I converted a 2 yr old (DW3 version) page to a xhtml version trying to correct the 70 errors that the "Target Browser Check" showed that was wrong with the page.
The duplicate page now saved as a XHTML shows the same errors. Any thoughts ?
Also do you happen to now where to find what % of people are using which browsers?
That maybe the short term answer to updating the whole site ?

Thanks for any input.

Browser Stats...

This type of information is available in the logs that the webserver keeps. It tracks browser information, referrals, etc... Installing a simple webstatistics program (e.g. Webalizer or Webtrends) can help organize this data in an understandable fashion.

If you don't have access to your log files or installing such applications, you can try 3rd party systems (e.g. stat counters and such) that offer tracking of visitor's browser types and such (e.g. http://www.statcounter.com/ ).
