Earthlink Woes

by Maggie6243 / November 20, 2006 8:44 PM PST

I'm sure this should be in the Broadband forum, but it seems no one has posted there in a while, so I didn't think anyone would see this post. So, here's the problem. My sister decided to cancel Earthlink, because they were too high for DSL. ($48.00 a month). She canceled and was disconnected on the 10th of Nov. This is now the 21st of Nov. I have called them several times and they keep making excuses as to why they won't "clear the line" so she can get internet service with someone else. Qwest(telephone service) has to wait for Earthlink to do this. Everytime I call Earthlink, they give a different date to clear the line. First it was going to be before the 17th, than it would be the 24th and now it MIGHT be the 28th or 29th. Is there anything I can do about this? It just seems to me they are punishing people for cancelling their service. It seems to me that this should be illegal.I had a problem with them also when I cancelled them about 6 mo. ago. I have done everything I know to do including sending emails, talking to supervisers I've talked to the department that supposedly clears the line. So as of today, she (my sister) has been without internet service for 12 days. Can anyone help? Thanks....Maggie

All relucant ISPs will drag thier feet in cutting the money line of their revenue. If paid with credit card, stick to the orginal cut-off date. If by check(oh no), make sure your bank knows on of your cutting direct access(if so used) or if by check and they send bill, post a letter to them in *htier envelope*. If the bill contiues to come, protest paying it and 'DO THIS IN WRITING TO CC/card PEOPLE'. If this goes on too long, then contact the local BBB and/or use online service for your behalf and see if they correct. Last, if you feel really wronged, contact the local PA, dist. attorney and make a case or state yours or fill-out what needs to be done. This is *all* a prolonged process, thus you need to have records or a log of any contacts when talking to Earthlink, the more the better, names, dates, etc.. to protect yourself and use if needed. Talking really doesn't work, not paying does, but protect yourself as stated above.

You can once any Earthlink s/w is deletted, etc. use another ISP like maybe AT&T DSL offering or anyone that supports your area, check online in the broadband website.

Yesterday I sent an email to a Top Dog letting him know if it was not resolved today, I would take legal action against Earthlink. Didn't expect any results, but when I got home from work a while ago, the line has been cleared!! Why do they want to make people get mean and nasty to get anything done? Figure it!! Maggie
