EarthLink Now Offers to Scan E-Mail for Viruses at the Server Level

Nov 21, 2003 1:35PM PST

A step in the right direction! EarthLink announces to their customers that e-mail can be scanned by Norton AV prior to downloading to your mailbox. (Not automatic.... you must sign up for it, but it's free).

This can add another layer of protection in the virus wars, but does not replace (or conflict with) resident AV software.

QUOTE:

***Virus Blocker will:
scan every incoming message
clean your messages or attachments to remove any viruses, when possible
quarantine your message online if it can't be cleaned
delete the entire message (if it's nothing but a virus)
It just takes a minute to activate Virus Blocker. After that, we'll keep our Virus Blocker scanning system updated and running on our servers, working night and day to protect your email inbox. There's nothing else you need to do!***
