Earthlink dialup accelerator and Vista

Jul 28, 2007 2:42AM PDT

OK, have talked to Earthlink chat lady, installed and reinstalled Total access.
Still cannot get accelerator to do any more then the minimum (read zero) acceleration.
Got very used to this feature with XP, and suspect that something in VISTA disallows this function.

Any ideas?

Earthlink and Vista
Jan 8, 2008 12:57AM PST

No help for accelerator but just a comment about Earthlink and Vista.

My new laptop runs Vista Home Premium fine but the Earthlink Toolbar takes 2 to 3 MINUTES to appear on my desktop after connecting via WiFi at the library or dial-up here at home. Earthlink Support acknowledged that they have a Toolbar problem with Vista and are working on a solution.

I gave up on Earthlink Accelerator on my XP desktop because of frequent errors and never considered installing it on my new laptop. It worked with XP but not well. In fact, Total Access has always had occasional errors on my two XP computers. I just send the error report to Microsoft and get the reply that Total Access has known problems.

I still use Earthlink and think it is great for $9.95/mo.

Vista and Earthlink-Not a good combo
Feb 27, 2008 11:55AM PST

I've been on the internet now for three years. I've always used Earthlink and have been very pleased with it. Then I switched from Windows 98 to Vista and all my problems began. First I couldn't get the Total Access software to even work right. So I did a chat thing with Earthlink and explained to them the switch to a newer computer with newer software. They directed me to a website to download the software. Two hours later it was downloaded. Everything worked great but not the accelerator. A day later I called Earthlink and was finally told the accelerator wasn't compatible with Vista. Something they never said to me the night before on the chat line. "Their technicians are working on it." I told them it wasn't fair to be paying the same price and not be able to use all the features included in that price. They actually lowered my bill!! But it still sucks because my 10 year old computer loaded websites faster then my new one!!! Isn't that a hoot? I'm trying out NetZero free for thirty days and it seems to be a little faster but not by much. I miss my old computer!!

the thing is that the accelerator is not compatible for windows Vista (yet ) so that's why you are not able to use it
