General discussion

E-mail notify......tracked threads.

Nov 27, 2012 8:12AM PST

How often does cnet send out mail to indicate a thread has been updated?
Hourly/daily/weekly?

I see in my profile this thing called "comment notify preferences" ......does this apply to tracked threads?

Tracked thread notifications...
Nov 29, 2012 1:45PM PST

Tracked thread notifications should be sent out on an hourly basis, with multiple updates within an hour span being bundled into a single email.

The "comment notification preferences" are unrelated with no forum post equivalent. That's specifically for comments on blog pages, special features, etc.

Hope this helps,
John

Ok
Dec 1, 2012 1:07AM PST

I've had a suspicion for a while now that the e-mail notify for me was "borked".

I have this thread marked as "tracked".

Over 24 hrs ago I saw the little circle on the thread change to red.
Indicating a new post in the thread.

I did not open the thread.
I just let it sit to see how long it took to get an e-mail.
As of writing this post......no e-mail.

Yes....I get e-mail from other sources.
No....the Cnet mail is not in the junk folder.

Care to take a Wag?

Let me give it a try...

I haven't used tracked threads much lately, so I just tracked this one to see if I get a notification on future replies. Try replying again and I'll be sure to ignore this thread until I get an email notification. Happy

Better late than never...
Dec 4, 2012 1:33PM PST

I received the email notification 3 hours ago, so it seems to be working but with a nearly three day delay. I'll send off an alert to get that looked into.

I send such to Lee just yesterday.

I see my alerts stopped about Nov 21 and so that was a dry spell.

UPDATE: This was fixed last night
Dec 5, 2012 1:22AM PST

Sorry about the disruption, but the Forums Tracked notification delivery system was down for a week or so and has now been fixed after the engineers gave a swift kick in the rear Wink

You all should be receiving updates now, including this note.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm not able to track any threads
Aug 16, 2013 3:19PM PDT

HI there, I've been scanning this forum for answers to my dilemma.

I can't even get the "track this thread' button to work at all. It's been a year or more since it worked for me.

I have made several comments plus started a couple of threads & always try to click the 'track' button but it never works. I check in my profile but there are never any threads being tracked. I make sure my notifications are set right. I also always tick the box at the bottom of my reply to track the thread & email me when there are updates.

So I never receive notifications about replies to my threads. Today I have spent 3hrs here trying to work it out, read threads that might have an answer for me.

I have no idea what I am **** wrong. But I sure would like to get notifications regarding threads. Wink

thanks

Hi ClissaT...

I'm sorry to hear about all the troubles you are having with our Forum tracked discussions feature.

Can you tell me what happens when you click on the "Track this discussion" button?

Also can you tell me what Web browser and what operating system you are currently using?

One other thing, have you changed your registered email address on CNET recently or in the past?

Thanks for this information, this will help me trouble shoot your issues.

Again, I'm sorry to hear about the problems, hopefully I can figure it out.

Thank you!
-Lee
