E-mail Address Book capture/ Shotgun SPAM

Jul 2, 2010 6:49AM PDT

Sometimes, while browsing, some sights have the capability to send what I call "Shotgun SPAM" through capturing my address book, when e-mail is open and logged-on, in another tab. Is there a way to prevent this, other than just keeping e-mail closed, when surfing the web?

It shows as being sent from my e-mail address, but does not log any sent messages.

They manage to snag all of my addresses and send bulk advertisements, usually not the kind you'd want in your e-mail box...

I have an HP pc, using Windows XP and Firefox... On ATT DSL/2-wire-wireless service.
