Parasite removal programs.
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 notes the five scanning tools and removal tools that are fairly safe. If one does encounter an issue, its always been damage done by the MALWARE. The most common issue being Layered Service Provider replacement which you can use LSPFIX (Hint: use http://www.google.com to find).
The thread has follow on discussions about new links if you don't want to use Google to find an item.

PS. All the tools are free.
After rebooting my computer this morning there were two small pop up boxes that just contained the letters dwn on them and an "OK" button and a close out ?X? button. If I close them out or click OK then the box is followed by another box that looks exactly the same and says done instead of dwn. If I click the done box, then it is followed by my OS running terribly slow, where it takes minutes to open a simple program. I've never had this happen before..and I don't know what it means. Is this a virus problem or Windows? I have a virus scanner and firewall, which I consistently keep updated. Please help!
Thanks,
