someone must have some input...
I just got a new PC - an HP with an NVIDIA 8500 GT with 512 MB dedicated video memory, which has a DVI-D output (and came with DVI-VGA converter.)
A little background: I am learning guitar using a DVD-based tutorial. My problem: the PC sits in a common area of my house outside my daughter's bedroom door where I can't play it. Since the PC is staying put - I wish to be able to carry the monitor (and mouse) to my bedroom so I can close the door and keep the noise down. Problem is, the 10 foot vga cable is just marginally long enough, and the video quality sucks.
QUESTION: Will a DVI-D cable be a better way to go than a VGA cable, and more importantly - HOW LONG CAN I GO without screwing video quality. I DON'T NEED video game quality - but I want at least decent VGA quality. Can I go 15 or 20 feet?
BONUS QUESTION: Why the heck are DVI cables so damn expensive - and does anyone know a source for decent, affordable DVI cables??
