"DVDs" Region to Region. ( NOTE, situated in UK)

Sep 25, 2007 2:52PM PDT

Hi;
Could anybody help with regards watching American or other region/contry's DVD's in the UK, I recently purchaced through E:bay an American set of DVD's and would like to watch them but on loading them in to my European DVD player the dreaded "error" message appeared and so turned to the PC( Win-XP,PRO,version2002,/pk2~AMD Sempron Processor3000+, 1.80ghz-480MB Ram) on loading, up popped the message that i was trying to watch a Region 2 DVD and that the computer was set to Region 1,and did i want to change the setting etc' etc, anyway you may think "what's his problem?" well on the instructions it goes onto say that i have only 4 atempts on altering the settings and that even if i reformat it will only allow 4 alterations even if i change the DVD plyer/device, anyway what i am thinking is that after say i change the setting's and watch the set of DVD's, and after watching them change back to region 1 that will have used up 2 of my life's so to speak, can anyone suggest an alternative or a programme that could help me?, i am not an expert with computers, and so would have to be practicaly idiot proof, thankyou for taking the time to read my problem and look forward to any constructive advice, with regards and many thanks.

I don't know UK law.. but you could try using a DVD ripper?
If not you could buy a second DVD drive for a few bucks and set it and LEAVE it on region 1? (think this is possable)

Can always add a 2nd or third drive...

The region "locking" is in each drive SW. Hence, if you plan on buying/watching more DVDs from the U.S., why not just add another DVD drive. They're cheaper than buying a DVD.

Region problems

Marc: I just solved your problem in reverse. I bought some DVD's in UK which didn't say what region they were for and sure enough they were region 2. After much screwing around, I went to Google and typed: "Hacker region codes for DVD" and bingo, I got an assortment of sites that give you the code for each specific brand and model of DVD. I have a Go Video and was able to remove the code requirement entirely. I hope you have the same luck. Google also has a hacker code search engine, but I think that's much more technical. Good hunting.
