Question

DVD/RW drive

Mar 13, 2017 10:19AM PDT

I get a message saying "File was not found" when I click on the icon even though the icon shows the title of what is on the disc. It is driving me nuts trying to figure out how to solve the problem. Also, I have a portable dvd drive and it does the same thing with the portable. Why is this happening and how do you fix it?

Clarification Request
This is what happens here on a fresh Windows 10 install.

I have to install VLC Player (I get mine from ninite.com) to play my Video DVDs.

The only thing is...

I have been using Windows 10 since it first came out and this is the first time this is happening. I will try VLC and see what happens. I use PowerDVD for Lenovo with no problems until now. I also used Microsoft's Media Player and the same problem.

Microsoft's Media Player and DVD play. I use PowerDVD too since I needed a BluRay player app.

Remember, since W10 and Video DVD discussions are so "done", I don't note priors any longer.

I have read so many articles of how to solve the problem and after trying each suggestion from the articles, I still have the problem. Now, I am wondering if, after the last installment of upgrades for Window 10,, this problem occur.

Since the problem occured after the last update.

For me it's just too easy to hit ninite.com, check off VLC Player to fix what the update broek.

But if you lean on Microsoft's Media Player for DVD Play, then for most Video DVDs that's just broken. Remember I will shortchange everyone about this area.

Answer
Is It A Rewritable Disk?
Mar 13, 2017 10:27AM PDT

Sounds like the disk isn't readable. Whether CD-RW or DVD-RW, if you use the packet writing software burning programs which allow copy/pasting or drag/dropping a file to the disk, then it frequently causes such problems. Either you're reading the disk from a computer which doesn't have the same packet writing software or the re-writable disk is failing.

IN order to make a RW disk so it can be read reliably on a drive, be sure to a perform a "data disk" burn which finalizes and closes the disk. In the future, if you want to use the disk again, simply erase the disk and perform another data disk burn.

Hope this helps.

No...

It is a video disc that I bought. I was burning a disc not too long ago. Do you think most likely, it is waiting for another document to burn and if so, what should I do to change that?

When I open the folder, it is empty. I checked with other video discs and it does the same thing.
