dvdrom doesnt play dvd's

I have an older computer I have set back up while my laptop is in the shop. It has an athlon processor, 96mb ram, samsung cd/dvd-rom 606F, etc... The dvd feature never did work on this pc years ago when I used it, but now I need to watch some dvd material for work and need to get it to work asap. The rom works great, I can read cd's, play music, use all functions except dvd. When I put in a dvd and open WinDVD it does nothing. When I have in the dvd and go to My Computer and click the drive, it says RETRY/CANCEL, like the drive is empty. It totally does not recognize it. I saw some firmware upgrade stuff, but I am not familiar with using DOS and am afraid I will mess up the system. Try GEEXBOX.

Look up GEEXBOX, make that CD and boot it. If your machine has the stuff to play DVDs, this will work. If GEEXBOX fails, you have issues to fix.
