The reason it writes that is the Windows 95,98 and ME OSes can't supply all DVD functions. For example a DVD could host a 4.7 GB file, but these OSes are limited to 4GB file sizes. While I have seen such used on Windows 9x/ME, the issue is that the users are calling in too much with the usual RESOURCE and FILE limitations of the OS.
Not that it won't or can't work but that the reports are people are expecting to be able to do "everything."

I want to buy a dvd writer. I have an HP Pavilion xt 936. The dvd writer I am looking at is the dvd400i, BUT it does not say it supports windows me. It does say windows 2000 xp or professional sp3. The question is will it work under my operating system?
