Nothing in your post tells that the machine can play DVD. For software playback to occur, you need a certain power CPU, RAM and a properly installed OS.

Some don't know Microsoft doesn't install motherboard, usb, video and more drivers.

I had a problem very similar to that when using McAfee's VirusScan as my virus scanner. Turns out the little ****** is a major CPU hog. Norton, AVG, and Avast all let video play properly.

However, if the problem just started recently, and you already have at least one spyware laden app on your system (Real Player), have you tried doing a spyware sweep of your system? And for future reference, do a search on Google for "Real Alternative". You should find a free package which installs just the RealMedia codecs and a uber cool freeware media player (MediaPlayer Classic or MPC) which is probably bar none the best media player for Windows. It can also do QuickTime files if you get QuickTime Alternative.

Both McAfee and Symantec softwares have had this effect when some automatic update occured. But that seemed to have subsided a few months ago.

Your the first post about this in awhile so I'll know to watch for a resurgance on this issue.

The fix appeared to be to uninstall the AV, reinstall and update it again.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
