DVD slideshow won't play properly on older DVR

Using a Gateway PC, Photo Stage slideshow creator and DVD flick DVD burner, made a slideshow DVD. Plays on any PC, but on older DVR, (Magnavox VHS and DVD) photos are stretched horizontally.
Played on Philips DVR (DVD only) photos are OK. what's causing this?

How would we know?

Obviously a hardware problem peculiar to the device used, not the DVD.

Remember this.

Video DVD is 480i and at best 480p. So put that on HDTV and it might stretch. It should!

Now to why the new DVR. My bet is it was made after HDTVs arrived and knows how to upscale. The older DVR doesn't know HDTV and you have to accept this or try scaling settings on the HDTV.

No mystery at all here. Just a lot to learn about settings, TV, HDTV, Video DVDs and 480 video.

Response to DVD slideshow won't play properly on older DVD

Thank you for your response. Made a slideshow two years ago, using Windows Movie Maker, and it worked fine on both my TVs, using both old and new DVRs. PC then was Windows 7 OS. Current PC is Windows 10, new install, did not have Movie Maker. Downloaded Movie Maker from net and it did not work with my current version of Windows 10. That's why I used Photo Stage. Slideshow works OK on laptop. Will cable laptop to TV and that will probably work.

DVD slideshow won't play properly on older DVD

Update. The older DVR was set to an aspect ratio of 4:3. Set it to 16:9 and DVD played properly.

Device problem

It`s more likely a hardware device issue

OP figured out the aspect ratio setting.
