General discussion

dvd slideshow software

Jul 1, 2006 12:59PM PDT

I'm sorry, I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the right forum. I have a PC with Windows XP and I want to create slideshows with photos and music. It would be nice if it had some cool transitions and the ability to do titles. I am definitely not a computer expert, I just would like a fun way to display photos on DVD that someone could play on their TV or computer. I have a friend that uses Photoshop Premiere and says it's simple, so one thing I am looking at is Premiere Elements. Would this be the way to go, or is something else better?
Thanks,
Sandy

you`d better convert your presentation to video file with the help of some special programmes (i usually use http://www.geovid.com/Presentation_to_Video_Converter)
then you`ll be able to use it like a video file with sound effects! saving on dvd or web casting! whatever you like! really easy & convenient!

Slideshow software from Microsoft
Jul 14, 2006 12:28AM PDT

I am trying a free download from Microsoft called Photo Story 3. It has most of what you want in features. I have ordered an additional feature from Roxio that allows a direct feed to dvd creation. That has a price. A nice feature is the pictures are presented with a slight zoom in or out that gives it a video effect. Real cool.

Roxio/XP issues
Jul 22, 2006 12:17PM PDT

There can be Roxio/XP incompatibility issues. I recently had a lot of misery because of this. One problem was that the Roxio Easy CD Maker contains an older version of Photo Suite which is where the difficulty lies.

I had a mess of trouble and deleted everything related to Roxio...out of my life.....so I am unable to give you specifics and links to info about the issues...

.....but before installing anything with Roxio Photo Suite as the editing software, I'd check out users reviews etc. I like the Roxio programs but not when they give me grief and several hours of work to rectify the problems.

Roxio and Photostory 3
Aug 22, 2006 7:38AM PDT

I just finished my first slide show using PHOTOSTORY. What a great project. The Roxio DVD burn addon worked without mishap. I too removed Roxio a number of years ago for compatibility problems. This little add on does work...........with my setup.

Has anyone found the "perfect" slideshow software?
Aug 25, 2007 3:40PM PDT

I have been teaching myself to do photo slideshows for special occasions for 3 years. Roxio 5 came installed on my Dell Computer. I struggled through it- with some help from their website and NO help by telephone. (I was told I would be charged per minute.) I was so frustrated, I tried Pinnacle. The software package I bought seemed to mostly try to sell me the better things I would like to have used that I thought I had already purchased. They will $20 you to death.
So....I went back to Roxio and upgraded to Easy Media Creator 8. Many of the nice overlays and video effects I liked in the earlier version were not carried over in the higher version. I liked the pan & zoom, but when I do most of their video effects, try to apply their more elaborate transitions-it usually freezes all my work on that show and if I did not save it up to that moment, I lose my work. I continue to have a love-hate relationship with the Roxio software for lack of not finding any really creative alternative. I have completed about 40 shows over the last couple of years and I am still looking for something better===========Any input would be appreciated. Cecil Lynn

dvd slideshow software

There are a large number of software apps avail to do DVD slideshows, and some are freeware. Others replying have mentioned MS Photo Story and it will do what you want. You can also use MS Windows Movie Maker and add movie clips. I have used them both and found them fairly easy to use. Also have used "Memories to TV" which is one of the less expensive dollar pkgs and can be found at http://www.codejam.com/products.htm. It to is not difficult to use.

Adobe Premier Elements is favored by a lot of folks but it has not been "friendly" for me. That is not meant to be critical of the software, but I am also not an expert an found the others I have mentioned to be more intuitive so easier to use.

Good luck and enjoy your finished product, have found that folks love the DVD's for gifts at birthdays and Christmas and other special occasions.

DVD Slideshow software

If you are just looking to do a photo DVD as a ''one off'' then you are probably best using one of the Microsoft products which are easy enough to use and, as I recall, are available for free.
If you are going to be doing these on a regular basis then I suggest that you download a few trial versions - try those that have been listed above -they are all pretty good. Play around with each of them, one at a time I suggest so you don't get them mixed up, and so that you get chance to try them out properly within their trial period.
Get hold of a few DVD RWs to test burn some slideshows and view them on your TV to check the results. This can be a slow process so beware - and some can be slower than others.
I tried quite a few and ended up using MemoriesOnTV which I reckon offers plenty of features yet is quick and easy to use.

Photo Slideshow Software

Hi Sandy, I have been using Microsoft Photo Story 3.0 for a year as an average guy with a computer. This is the program for you. Photo Story 3.0 is a free download from Microsoft for XP users. I have purchased the Sonic DVD program Microsoft recomends and it is not expensive. Photo Story 3.0 is just for still photos, but the program allows you to pan your photos from side to side , and zoom in and out. The final effect looks great with the added music of your choice and nice transition effects between photos. If you do not own a DVD burner you do not need to buy the DVD burner program and you can view your musical slide show on your computer. This is an easy to use program for anyone. What the heck, its free from Microsoft website. Try it, you'll like it. Frank

Hi Sandy, Its Frank again. I forgot to tell you that Photo Story 3.0 allows you to put a title on any or all of the photos with a nice selection of fonts, size, color and the placement of the title as you choose. It is very easy to use. Hope this helps you a little bit. Bye. Frank

Photo show

I have used several different programs to make photo shows over the years. I have Time Warner internet. They recently offered a free download of Photo Show deluxe v.4 for all of their customers. I gave it a try and discovered that it is by far the easiest to use of any that I've used in the past.
You can change transitions, borders/frames, add text to a photo, and music from many genres.
The best part of the deal is that Roadrunner allows you to upload the shows to your own webpage. You can simply send the link to family and friends and they can view the shows. That's about as good as it gets.
The downside, if you don't have roadrunner or some other similar offering, you may have to purchase the software.
This can be found at simplestar.com

DVD Photo Show software

I can tell you from experience the "free" software from Microsoft entitled PhotoStory 3 is the best that I have tried bar none! for Windows XP.
In order to burn a DVD for TV viewing you need to go on line & buy the Roxio Plug-in for $19.95. I did. I downloaded it. It worked flawlessley. We took an European River Cruise - Basal, Switzerland all the way to Vienna, Austria. I took just shy of 600 digital photos and using the Windows PhotoStory 3 program I made a perfect photo show with background music (I used Mozart & Strauss (both a huge European gem) disks and used some of that music for background. My show of these all photos was done on two discs. Program let me adjust background music so I could creat (my) voice over to describe each and every photo. Terrific in every way. I have since made copies and sent them to friends. You can crop any photo, you can move any photo to any place in the show desired, insert typed captions rather the voice-over, make motions, effects, and transitions.
I have a VISTA machine and while it will utilize the PhotoStory 3 software just as well as my XP system did it will not accept the Roxio Plug-in. I wrote to Microsoft advising them of this emphasizing this and told them ouright they were missing out on one tremendous advantage they would have if the arrainged to have the Plug-in compatible with VISTA. Their reply was "it has been sent upward to management for resolution. I have not heard any more - of course it takes time.
But...PhotoStory 3 price-wise, ease of use, and reliability is unbeatable in my opinion. It gave me what I wanted 100% of the time & I went back & forth photo to photo many times in creating the shows. The panning, features etc - simply great!
Incidentally, I wrote Roxio as well inquiring about a Plug-in for VISTA - NO DICE.
