dvd's won't play in mediaplayer 10

by batmanjz / February 17, 2005 10:47 PM PST

I have just reformatted my sony desktop & installed sp2,running xp home. installed windows media player 10 & now it won't play dvd's. I get an error message about digital copy right protection. It says I need a decoder. had no problem playing dvd's in mediaplayer 9. I also have cyberlink power dvd preinstalled & now I can't play dvd's on that either-get error message.Had no problem before. Is ther a fix? w/o installing a new dvd program? Also, if I uninstall mediaplayer 10, will it revert back to mediaplayer 9? this is driving me nuts!! I have tried the update for cyberlink power dvd, but to no avail. Please help!

I noticed that too.

It appears you need to upgrade the DVD software too.

But this is something you don't want to do. And you may have to wait for yet another update by Cyberlink if the update failed.

If you call it in, you'll get pretty much the same answer. For my machine, I uninstalled PowerDVD, reinstalled it and PowerDVD works again. WMP 10 is not used for DVD playback for now.

I'm also having this problem
by bassamp4jc / February 15, 2007 12:07 AM PST

Hi - I just upgraded to WM10 a couple months ago and have not needed to play a DVD till last night - I put it in and got the error:
"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."

So far I have:
1. Updated the DVD burner's firmware
2. Uninstalled/reinstalled video card drivers
3. Installed nDVD2 that came with the video card - and it gives me an error also (not the same thing, but most likely the same root cause)

I'm running them most up-to-date SW for everything (that I'm aware of)- so what's the problem?

XP Pro, SP2
3.0GHz P4
1.0Gb RAM
Samsung TSSTCorp TS-H552B DVD Burner
