dvd rw drive problems

by hoss9009 / March 5, 2005 1:31 PM PST

i've had a sony dru-530A for about 9 months now and i just updated the firmware to allow me to burn dvd-r's from 4x to 8x.... and so i bought some dvd-r's at 8x. Now when the cd's burn, they burn with a visible line in the middle from the edge of the disk to the center. The section that is closer to the disk's center, is much more prominant and looks like it has a much thicker burn. The other section looks weak, almost as if it barely burned that section. So then i went out and bought some other dvd's. Same thing.

Now i've heard that the dvd rw drives can get hot and freak out especially w/ a drive right underneath that one (what doyou know i have a dvdrom right underneath the rw). And i haven't turned off the comp in a while. Could it be that the drive is just hot and i need to make some space for it to breat?

Or (Question #2) what else could it be?

Eric

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
