Resolved Question

DVD RW drive problem

by Lengore / May 17, 2013 8:29 PM PDT

I can't use my DVD drive. When I examine it in Device Manager I get the following message "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)".

Changed the drive and encountered the same problem. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

I'm running Windows XP pro SP3. The device is visible in Device Manager but with a ? against it. I've tried disabling it and reinstalling but no luck.

Thanks to bob b. The link led me to a solution which involved a registry change to the UpperFilters and LowerFilters keys..
glb13, yes I did uninstall, sorry I used the term disable by mistake.
pgc3, I did say in my description that I tried a different drive. I removed the original drive and installed a spare drive but still had the same problem.

The registry update produced a small added problem. I have my system and programs on one drive and my data files on another. After re-booting the drive letters for the data disk and the DVD were reversed!

Finally thanks to all three of you for taking the trouble to reply to my problem.

First thing, check physical connections, cables etc. Second thing, replace DVD/RW drive, sounds pretty much like a failed drive.

Meet the drop-resistant Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force is really thin, with a fast processor and great battery life. It can survive drops without shattering.
