Dvd/rw drive not showing up on My Computer

We have a Compaq F700 computer (laptop) When my wife selected remove hardware on the lower toolbar, we somehow now have no icon on our My Computer of the DVD/RW drive listed. When inserting a CD data, CD music or Movie DVD nothing happens. We tried going to device manager and looking up the DVD/RW drive with no luck. What should we do next? Take it to a PC repair shop? Any advice will help.
